John specialises in privacy and AI governance. He received the IAPP’s 2026 Vanguard Award (EMEA) for his contributions to privacy, AI governance, cybersecurity law and digital responsibility. He previously held senior roles at IBM, including Senior Program Manager in the Risk, Compliance and Integrity unit and Strategy Consultant at IBM Promontory, where he supported GDPR compliance programmes. Earlier in his career, he served as Head of EU and International Data Protection Policy at the UK Ministry of Justice and was the UK’s lead negotiator at the Council of the EU’s DAPIX working group during the development of the GDPR. He is a regular speaker at conferences, a contributing author to the IAPP AIGP curriculum, and has published more than 25 articles on privacy and digital governance.
