Profile

Ben Hobden is co-head of Harneys' Litigation, Insolvency and Restructuring practice in the Cayman Islands. With over a decade of experience in the jurisdiction, he is recognised as a leading practitioner in complex, cross-border fraud and asset recovery matters, regularly applying for interim relief — including freezing injunctions and third-party disclosure orders — to identify, preserve, and recover assets on behalf of clients.

Ben's asset recovery work sits within a broader practice spanning large-scale financial services litigation, insolvency, and restructuring. He has an enviable track record of acting on many of the largest restructurings in the Cayman Islands, advising insolvency practitioners, debtors, and creditors across high-value cross-border mandates. He is a recognised expert in restructuring by way of scheme of arrangement and has significant experience in activist shareholder litigation under section 238 of the Companies Act.

His wider practice encompasses insurance disputes, corporate and commercial disputes, and advisory work for financial institutions, directors, and corporates. Ben is also regularly engaged to provide expert evidence on matters of Cayman Islands law.

A highly experienced advocate, Ben has appeared before the Grand Court and Court of Appeal on numerous occasions, earning a reputation for clear, concise, and commercially focused advice. Chambers and Partners describes him as "outstanding and very commercial," and he is recommended by Legal 500, Global Restructuring Review (named in GRR's "40 Under 40" in 2022), Lexology Index, Benchmark Litigation, and Lawdragon. He is recognised by Who's Who Legal as a Restructuring & Insolvency Thought Leader. Ben is qualified to practise in the Cayman Islands and in England and Wales.
