Dr. Björsne earned his Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry from Stockholm University after completing his undergraduate studies at Lund University. With more than 25 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, he has held senior leadership roles within AstraZeneca’s R&D organization.

In 2006, Dr. Björsne transitioned to the Strategic Planning & Business Development division, where he led the Cardiovascular Business Development team. In this capacity, he was responsible for identifying, evaluating, and executing mergers and acquisitions, as well as licensing agreements.

Since founding AZ BioVentureHub in 2014, Dr. Björsne has spearheaded this pioneering initiative to foster open innovation across multiple industry sectors. The BioVentureHub enables SMEs and academic institutions to collaborate closely with AstraZeneca, leveraging the company’s expertise and infrastructure to accelerate scientific and technological advancements.

Beyond his corporate responsibilities, Dr. Björsne serves as an Associate Professor in Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg. He has held board positions with SwedenBio - the national life sciences trade organization, and UN Global Compact Sweden. Currently, he serves on the board of The Swedish American Chamber of Commerce, underscoring his commitment to responsible business practices and global collaboration.
