Cellmabs and Valvian founder Nuno Prego Ramos to speak at the opening of BIO-Europe Spring 2026

Lisbon will host the event for the first time, highlighting its strategic potential in biotechnology, driven by companies such as Valvian.

Nuno Prego Ramos will be one of the speakers at the opening session of BIO-Europe Spring 2026, taking place from March 23 to 25 at FIL, in Lisbon.

The conference, now in its 20th edition, is being held in Portugal for the first time and is one of Europe’s leading partnering events in the life sciences sector. It brings together pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, investors, universities and research centers to foster strategic partnerships and drive investment. With more than 3,700 participants (such as executives and decision-makers) from around 60 countries already confirmed, Lisbon’s selection reflects the country’s growing position as a credible and competitive hub for life sciences.

An entrepreneur and researcher with a strategic vision for the role Portugal can play in biotechnology, Nuno Prego Ramos is CEO of Valvian, a Portuguese biotech company focused on developing innovative cancer therapies and addressing aging-related challenges.

He developed innovative cancer therapies at CellmAbs, a spin-off he co-founded and that lead to one of the most significant deals in Portugal’s biotechnology sector when entered into an agreement with BioNTech in 2024.

At the BIO-Europe Spring 2026 opening plenary, Nuno Prego Ramos will share the stage with Holger Kisser of BioNTech, alongside other international speakers. The panel will focus on the importance of partnerships in the sector, as well as the role of Lisbon and Portugal as a strategic location in the European biotechnology landscape.

“The decision to base Valvian in Portugal was also driven by the contribution we aim to make in positioning the country as a relevant player in biotechnology. The challenge now is to scale – and that requires being at the center of the international partnerships that are redefining the future of the sector.”

Valvian will also be represented at the Portugal Pavilion. Located in booth #55, the pavilion is coordinated by the regional host committee (Biocant Park, P-BIO – Associação Portuguesa de Bioindústria, and CoLAB AccelBio) and brings together companies, universities and public entities from the national ecosystem committed to advancing Portuguese biotech on the global stage.
