Profile

Dana Rowan, Managing Partner and founder of The Exeter Companies (TEC), has over 40 years of experience in real estate investment, development, and restructuring. Established 25 years ago, TEC has formed and led a variety of national and international investment and development ventures and directed advisory assignments involving different asset types and risk profiles. TEC assembled a full block of land and entitled 255-unit West Square, one of the first newly developed multifamily apartments in the South Boston Waterfront. More recently, TEC ventured with one of its NYC partners to convert a 135-acre struggling golf course into a master planned community with 655 dwelling units. TEC also partnered with NYC-based Getzler Henrich and Associates (now a subsidiary of Hilco) for distressed asset restructuring, and advised major financial institutions, including Bank of America, following the global financial crisis. Prior to that, TEC led an international investment venture with NYC-based hedge fund, XE Capital, to co-invest with leading developers in India and Eastern Europe. Since the 1980s, investment experience has included roles as JV partner with two NYC hedge funds, SVP of portfolio strategy and dispositions at New Boston Fund ($2B AUM), national head of multifamily acquisitions for Metropolitan Properties of America, and investment manager in acquisitions and sales for the Prudential Realty Group (now PGIM). During the 1990s market collapse, Mr. Rowan led restructuring practices at The Recovery Group and Resolution Capital Corporation, overseeing workouts of $2.5 billion in assets for both debtors and creditors. Mr. Rowan is director emeritus and the former national chairman of NAIOP, a member of ULI, the Real Estate Investment and Advisory Council, and the Counselors of Real Estate. He is also Trustee Emeritus of The Boston Architectural College and now serves as an adjunct professor of its real estate development program. Mr Rowan is a graduate of Dartmouth College, has a master’s degree in finance and urban economic development from Harvard, and an MBA from Boston University Questrom School of Management.
