Mike Ma is Managing Partner of Sidecut Ventures, a pre-seed fund investing in “coachable superheroes” tackling systemic challenges across economic mobility, digital health, climate, and education—with FinTech as a key pillar. Sidecut combines capital with strategic operational coaching to accelerate founder success.
Previously, Mike was Managing Director at Nex Cubed, where he launched its inaugural FinTech accelerator and the HBCU Founders Fund. He also served as Operating Partner at Sway Ventures, overseeing FinTech investments. As an operator, he was CMO at Betterment and Own Up, two category-defining FinTechs, and co-founded ShredBetter (acquired). Earlier, he led strategy and marketing at kasina (acquired) and Coeio.
In traditional finance, Mike held executive roles at Bank of America, leading digital innovation, and at Vanguard, where he led the $60M “Vanguarding” brand campaign.
He holds a degree from Harvard and lives in NY and VT with his wife, kids, and doodles.
