Johnston Chen is Director of Forward Deployed Legal Engineering at Norm Ai, where he built and leads the inaugural team of legal engineers who design and build the AI agents that power Norm Law, an AI-native law firm. His team translates complex legal and regulatory requirements into AI agents leveraged directly by Norm Law's associates and partners to deliver legal services with greater speed and scale, and he partners with many of the world's largest financial institutions to demonstrate that model through on-site engagements with senior stakeholders across major markets.

A former mid-level M&A and private equity associate at A&O Shearman, where he advised private equity sponsors on cross-border transactions, Johnston has since spent eight years in legal technology, including product roles at Bloomberg and LexisNexis before joining Norm Ai. He holds a J.D. from New York University School of Law, where he was a Fellow in the FASPE program studying professional and legal ethics, and a B.A. from Northwestern University, where he was elected Phi Beta Kappa.
