An Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa, Ismail is a seasoned risk management executive with extensive experience building and transforming risk functions in leading financial institutions. He previously held senior risk leadership roles at First National Bank South Africa, including Chief Risk Officer for the Business Bank and the Retail Bank, where he led enterprise risk management across millions of customers.

At Capitec, Ismail works closely with the Board and senior stakeholders, chairing the Group’s Asset and Liability Committee, the Model Governance Committee, and multiple risk and credit committees, while maintaining strong engagement with both conduct and prudential regulators

Ismail has led enterprise-wide initiatives embedding advanced analytics and automation into core risk processes, strengthening decision-making and operational efficiency. He has successfully aligned risk frameworks with platform business models, enabling organizations to thrive in digital ecosystems while maintaining robust governance.
