Career
Marcus Chromik joined Deutsche Bank on March 1st, 2025. He is a member of the Management Board since May 1st, 2025 and Chief Risk Officer since May 20th, 2025, responsible for leading and managing the Group Global Risk Management function. Marcus possesses a wealth of experience in the risk management field within banks. Prior to DB Roles, he was non-executive director and member of the Board of Directors and Risk Committee at UniCredit in Milan, Italy. From July 2009 to December 2023, he spent 14 years with Commerzbank in Frankfurt am Main, Germany in various roles across market, credit, liquidity risk and big data/analytics, serving since January 2016 as Chief Risk Officer and Member of the Management Board. From March 2004 to June 2009, Marcus held several leadership positions at Deutsche Postbank AG, including Head of Risk Controlling, Head of Primary Capital Markets, and Head of Liquidity Management and Credit Treasury. His early career was spent at McKinsey & Company in Hamburg, where he led several clients’ projects in risk management.
Marcus is a champion of AI in risk management and promotes innovation, focusing on controllable, safe and scalable deployment to enhance risk detection, operational efficiency and decision quality.
Education
He studied Physics at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and received his Ph.D. in Nuclear Physics. He spent some time engaging in academic scientific research in Michigan, USA, before joining McKinsey as Senior Risk Associate.
