Dominic Barnard is the Finance Director at BACKED, the seed stage frontier tech VC investing in European heritage founders with global ambitions. Dominic heads up the firm's finance function, across reporting, audit, compliance and operations - and owns the technology stack that sits behind it.

During six years at BACKED, Dominic has built out the firm's finance infrastructure from a small-team base, giving him a practical, hands-on view of the tooling, vendor and build-versus-buy decisions facing emerging managers. Today he runs a finance function spanning multiple funds and SPVs, and is the firm's SMF16 Compliance Officer, responsible for FCA compliance oversight and regulatory reporting. He is currently working on BACKED's AI-first finance transformation, replacing manual portfolio tracking, data extraction and reporting workflows with automation so that the investment committee and LPs work from a single, current view of fund and portfolio performance.

A CIMA-qualified accountant, Dominic spent the earlier part of his career in financial control and reporting roles at JPMorgan, Brown-Forman and IG Group before moving into venture capital.
