Hiroshi Ishikawa is Director for Innovation and Startup Promotion Policy at Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). His expertise includes industry policy, startup and innovation policy, and energy policy. Since joining METI in 2000, he has held senior leadership positions in electricity and gas market reform, automotive and battery strategy, industrial policy, and served as Executive Secretary to the Minister overseeing economic policy, COVID-19 response, and CPTPP. He also served as Special Advisor to the Minister and Executive Director of JETRO, leading innovation and economic cooperation across the Asia-Pacific region. He holds a B.A. from the University of Tokyo and an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University.
