Luca Tonello is a senior finance and capital-markets executive with over 25 years of international leadership across structured and project finance, energy and infrastructure and corporate advisory. He has held roles in London, Tokyo and Singapore, including 18 years at SMBC.

As Deputy Head of SMBC's Asia Structured Debt Vertical, Luca helps lead the regional platform covering infrastructure, real estate, leveraged finance, private credit, securitisation, fund finance and capital markets, with a focus on senior client engagement, strategic initiatives, disciplined risk management and integrated financing solutions.

Previously, as General Manager and Head of Structured Finance, Luca led SMBC Asia Pacific’s award-winning energy and infrastructure finance franchise. He was responsible for origination, portfolio performance and risk, while building and developing multi-market teams and cultivating senior relationships with sovereign wealth and infrastructure funds, pension funds, development finance institutions and banks.

Luca serves as Non-Executive Director of Clifford Capital Holdings and Board Observer at ASEEM Infrastructure Finance Ltd, part of India's National Investment and Infrastructure Fund platform. Earlier roles with RBS and GE Capital in London and the start of his career with Sumitomo Corporation in Italy and Japan, including a Tokyo posting, gave him a distinctive regional and global perspective valued by clients and partners.

He holds a Master in Finance from London Business School and a Master in Mechanical Engineering, specialising in energy, from Politecnico di Torino. He also completed the Global Leadership Programme at Wharton School and is a Fellow of the Institute of Banking and Finance, Singapore. He speaks regularly at industry conferences on infrastructure, energy, capital markets and the evolving role of financial institutions in supporting sustainable economic growth.
