Greenbuild 2026 Summit

Strategic Decarbonization: Regulatory Drivers, Tools, and Real‑World Execution

A technical deep-dive into practical pathways to address one of the most significant challenges in the existing buildings sector: decarbonizing buildings over time.

Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at the Javits Center

Strategy Decarbonization

Strategic decarbonization designed for today

This full-day summit will immerse attendees in the emerging world of strategic decarbonization. Participants will explore practical pathways to address one of the most significant challenges in the existing buildings sector: decarbonizing buildings over time. The summit will provide insight into current and emerging best practices, tools (including LEED V5), regulatory drivers (including NYC’s Local Law 97), engineering and architectural approaches, and real-world case studies across a range of project complexities.

Designed from the practitioner's perspective, the summit will equip attendees with a foundational understanding of strategic decarbonization planning, including how to navigate uncertainty, evaluate multiple pathways, leverage available market tools, and build a compelling business case for decarbonization. Participants will leave prepared to contribute directly to meaningful, scalable decarbonization solutions that will shape the future of the built environment.

Summit learning objectives

  • Understanding the principles of strategic decarbonization planning to include current and emerging market conditions.
  • How to apply strategic decarbonization methodologies, tools, and scenario-based approaches in a real-world context to identify viable pathways and implementation opportunities.
  • What different practitioner roles and perspectives look like within the context of strategic decarbonization and how interdisciplinary collaboration drives successful decarbonization outcomes.
  • How to develop and communicate a compelling business case for decarbonization by integrating capital planning considerations, co-benefits, and long-term asset performance goals.
